Indian Social Club, Sohar organizes
Chess Tournament
The newly formed Indian Social Club, Sohar
conducted a Chess tournament on Friday, May 21, 2010 at Sohar Plaza. Sohar Plaza
is a newly opened mall in Sohar which has multiplex screens and a food court.
The tournament was organized by the Sports committee of ISC, Sohar consisting of
Mr. Nell N. Vaz and Dr Mahesh Mistry.
The tournament was conducted in three
categories of children less than 12 years, children between 12 & 18 years and
for those over 18 years old. There was lot of enthusiasm amongst the
participants and their families. There was overwhelming response to the event in
all categories.
The winner in the age group less than 12
years was Syed Abdul Qaduer while the runner up was Murli Rakesh. In the age
group between 12 to 18 years the winner was Muthu Palaniappan and the runner up
was Atul Pandey. All these are students of Indian School, Sohar.
In the above 18 years category the final
match was a very intense affair. The ultimate winner was Midhun P.U while the
runner up was Shrihari Chodagiri. Midhun P.U is a 3rd year IIT
Chennai student and also the current All India IIT champion. He is on a visit
here to meet his parents who are in Sohar. The prizes to all the winners were
distributed by the Principal of Indian School, Sohar Mr. J.K. Arora.
